Anyone whose activity involves addressing an audience, large or small, can experience performance anxiety. However, people whose career or other interests require them to take the ‘stage’ for other purposes (actors, musicians, manager, politicians etc) may experience stage fright as an impairment of their particular activity.

Being the centre of attention and having all eyes on you can be stressful : your body reacts to this situation in much the same way as it would if you were being attacked, triggering a natural ‘fight-or-flight’-mechanism. This is why symptoms of stage fright are similar to those that occur when you are in real danger. The key here lies in training the mind and body to be prepared to overcome the stress and perform convincingly.
